The benefits of remote working include avoiding the morning and afternoon rush hour, not having to dress up in a suit and tie / smart dress and with a 30 second commute, working from home allows you to get an extra in bed every morning.

With those great upsides and many more besides, it may seem life there is no downside to working from, aside from the always there inkling distraction of knowing that you couch and favourite boxset is just a few steps away, but there is one major drawback to working from home and that is keeping yourself, and your company / employer safe and keeping their commitment to security.

Remote Working VPN’s

For those of you who are now finding themselves from a home office, you may not have thought about the extra security that you need to implement to your chosen computer or laptop.

Not only is it as imperative as ever to make sure that your data is safe when accessing the internet but you also need to make sure that the data of the company that you work for is safe and secure.

Perhaps most importantly is the safety of the customers data as not only do you of course want to make sure that any information you collect is only for your eyes but you also need to make sure that you are fully compliant for things such as data protection laws.

If you are not sure why you need a VPN over other online security options or if you are not even sure just what a Virtual Private Network is, make sure you check out our guides.

Deciding on the right VPN can be a confusing task nowadays with so many options out there but when it comes to choosing one for remote working, there are a few things that you really should keep in mind and a few attributes that should be featured.

VPNs are not a guarantee of safety: Whist using a Virtual Private Network does encrypt your data and does add an extra barrier to those looking to steal your data or infect your services, they are not 100% infallible, as in no service, so if a company say they can keep you 100% safe, it is perhaps best to avoid them.

Do Not Choose A Free VPN: Whilst on the face of it you may think that with so many free options on the market there is no point in using a pay VPN, especially if you are only wanting the basic functions, but we would never recommend free VPN.

With the cost of even the best services so cheap, there is simply no reason to risk sing a free service who of course need to find a way to make money out of you and the way so many choose to do that is by using and/or selling your information- something which breaks the very reason for using a VPN in the first place.

No Logs Are Not Anonymous: When registering with a VPN one of the great selling points is if a service does not keep logs. If your VPN provider does not have the logs of your internet usage means that nobody else can get a hold of them and whilst that is great and it is almost a necessity nowadays, no logs does not mean anonymous.

Avoid USA Based Services: Whilst it may market itself as the land of the free, the USA is certainly not free when it comes to your internet usage and even if you are not a US citizen, if a company is base din the US, the government can and likely will want access to your data as the US becomes more and more shut off from internet freedom.
